Between July 31st and August 7th in 2010 the Gay Games VIII will take place in Cologne, Germany. Around 12.000 participants from all over the world are expected to take part in this sport and cultural event. Participant figures are reaching almost Olympic size.
|
Field Hockey is still not yet an official sport during this Gay Games but we are in close contact with the Gay Games VIII organisation to take up this (new gay) sport in their program besides the known sports. The Cologne organisation is willing and the chance that there will be Field Hockey during these Games is quite big. So if you also want Field Hockey to have a chance to join the Gay Games family after an absence of 8 years, please send an e-mail to the Gay Games VIII organisation saying so.

The Gay Games manual mentions: “In determining the Additional Sports for their particular Gay Games sports program, the host city must consider factors such as popularity in their particular city/area of the world, international interest and participation, and budget restrictions.” Well, we think Field Hockey fits in perfectly in this profile (maybe better then most Core Sports). Not only in Cologne as a city, but also for Garmany as a country. Where field hockey is one of the major sport in which the germans won many Olympic medals, especially in Cologne Field Hockey is popular. But more then this: The German girls are the winner of the last Gay Games, and are deprived of their chance to defend their title.

We sincerely hope to be able to: Be part of it
|
This is the slogan of edition VIII of the Gay Games in Cologne in 2010. It brings everybody together. Be part of it and show with your tolerance, how others can do as well. Everybody can take part, independently from his or her sexual orientation. It just does not matter, if you are heterosexual, homosexual, transgender or transsexual. | We are expecting over 46,000 guests for the Opening Ceremony at the RheinEnergie-Stadium in Cologne, home of the famous Cologne Soccer Club. Please join us, 31 July through 7 August, for a week-long celebration of sports competition and cultural events. | The concept for Cologne's application for the VIII Gay Games Cologne 2010 allows for concentration the wide variety of sports disciplines in a single location. Short distances and accessibillity as well as excellent facillities and infrastructure were significant crieria for selection |
